- Giants defensive snap counts vs. Texans: • It's so important to hit on a few mid-level free agent signings every offseason. The Giants certainly did with DJ Reader. His two-year, $12 million contract looks like an absolute bargain. Bobby Jamison-Travis has ditched the redshirt and might already be the second-best run-stopper on the D-line. His emergence allowed the Giants to use Darius Alexander almost exclusively in passing situations, which masks his deficiencies against the run. If there's a position I had to predict a trade, it's defensive tackle. This group is getting by, but could really use a solid piece to complement Reader. And I'd expect Dean Lowry to be a practice squad elevation before long. • Abdul Carter is a machine. He was back to playing nearly ever snap after being on a pitch count last week due to a calf injury. On the Texans' game-tying drive late in regulation every member of the D-line was on a knee catching their breath during a timeout and Carter was…

- Giants-Saints defensive snap counts (trying to post before any more cuts): • Slight uptick in DJ Reader's playing time. Has to be incredibly challenging to limit his snaps because he is far and away their best DT. His TFL on third-and-goal before halftime could have been a game-changing play. Shelby Harris is a tier or two below, and then it drops off a cliff when they get to the young guys. • Abdul Carter was dominant early with the consecutive holding penalties. Bad tackles just don't have a chance against him. He was on a pitch count while playing through a calf injury. He was quieter as the game progressed, but it also turned into a run-heavy second half. Kayvon Thibodeaux has been better the past two weeks, but they still need more. The roughing the passer penalty was just unnecessary. I'll just say the Jihad Ward release was not a surprise. Trace Ford is out of practice squad elevations. I'm not sure it's a lock that he gets signed to the 53. You're seeing the difference…
- Defensive snap counts for the #NYGiants in Week 6: -- Jason Pinnock got 45 snaps and Ar'Darius Washington 29 in place of Tyler Nubin. -- Trace Ford played 30 -- Bobby Jamison-Travis got 18 snaps in his first action -- Nic Jones played 31 snaps after Greg Newsome was concussed

Giants-Saints pregame thoughts:
• Finally, no rain! Will be nice to watch a game that isn't heavily impacted by the weather.
• The Giants were forced into the best version of their offense because they were trailing by two scores in the second half of last week's game. Don't want Jameis Winston dropping back 60 times every week, but the best players on this offense are Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely. The offense needs to run through them. If you have to live with a bad pick here and there, that's OK because Jameis is also delivering yards/touchdowns.
• Nabers saying he's only 80% back is encouraging considering he has 17 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games. That seems like an accurate assessment because he has left some plays on the field while being productive. This matchup should provide an opportunity for another big game.
• Have covered the RB shake-up plenty. Not much more to say. I don't get the Najee Harris love from the coaching staff, but this…

- Oct 15 Pat Leonard (X) Giants Thursday practice update: Edge Abdul Carter (calf) & RT Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) both were with the Giants’ training staff outside. Carter did jog across the field after he completed his work, but had a wrap on his calf. Neither are practicing. I don’t think we’re going to see Thomas at many Wednesday practices, but I wouldn’t be concerned for Sunday.

- Oct 13 ESPN NFL Injury Report Jason Pinnock: Questionable
- Oct 13 Dan Duggan (X) Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Commanders: • Very even split among the top three defensive tackles. That's mostly because Darius Alexander was used as an interior rusher on passing downs. He has replaced Chauncey Golston, while Jihad Ward replaced Kayvon Thibodeaux (who has shifted outside to replace Brian Burns). DJ Reader has been so steady. They've shown impressive discipline not over-using him, which can't be easy because the drop off is significant when he's off the field. Jacory Croskey-Merritt's 33-yard touchdown run on the opening drive came on the first play after Reader and Shelby Harris were replaced by Alexander and CJ Okoye. Okoye got easily displaced from the gap where the run went. Harris has been playing better recently, but the depth here is still a concern. Ward failed to make an impact in his debut in his role as an interior rusher on passing downs and a DE in the base 3-4. • Abdul Carter continues to play at an extremely high level. He had six pressures…

#NYGiants defensive snap counts vs. Cardinals:
-- Jason Pinnock was getting a good run, until he got concussed.

- Oct 5 Dan Duggan (X) Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Cardinals: • Uptick in snaps for DJ Reader and Shelby Harris. Reader has been quietly steady all season. Harris had his best game, highlighted by the tipped pass that turned into an Arvell Reese interception. Darius Alexander's playing time increased as he was back in the third-down package with Kayvon Thibodeaux bumped out to edge rusher. CJ Okoye had an impressive bull rush for his first career sack. Chauncey Golston played almost exclusively on the defensive line before leaving with a neck injury (he looked woozy) in the third quarter. Alexander and Reader were the interior DL on passing downs after Golston's departure. • Abdul Carter had a major impact rushing the passer regardless of what the box score says. He was constantly winning quickly and putting pressure on Jacoby Brissett. He has been off the field for four defensive snaps in the past two games. That's not sustainable. Need to find a way to rotate more even with Brian Burns…

- Oct 4 Dan Duggan (X) Jason Pinnock, who took over at safety for Tyler Nubin on the third series, is being evaluated for a concussion.
- Oct 4 Pat Leonard (X) Big swing for a couple reasons here. Shelby Harris bats a Brissett pass that's intercepted by Arvell Reese. But also, Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love hobbled off the field after the turnover. Something to watch. Jason Pinnock hit Love's knee on the tackle on the play before. And he didn't contact anyone before limping on the next play
- Oct 4 Dan Duggan (X) Giants-Cardinals pregame thoughts: • Is this Jameis Winston's last stand? It would be much better for the Giants if Winston can settle down and play well enough so they don't need to rush JJ McCarthy onto the field. But the clock is going to be ticking if it doesn't look better than the past two appearances. The Giants haven't scored a TD in the 7+ quarters since Jaxson Dart's injury and they're 0-for-4 in the red zone the past two games. Don't need to see vintage Jameis slinging it all over the field, but would like to see them open up the offense a bit. This is a bad defense. You invested in Winston for this moment, at least show a little trust in him. • The Winston point ties into Malik Nabers. He has six catches for 27 yards over the past two games. He's still not back to top form, but this is a matchup that could get him there. But need to scheme some plays downfield/in the open field. Enough screens into the teeth of the defense. • The Cardinals have an efficient offense…
