Gray is signing to the practice squad, per source. Bringing back a RB with familiarity makes sense since Devin Singletary is the only healthy RB who has been here before this week. The Giants also have Greg Desrosiers, who they signed off the Chargers’ practice squad last week · Quoting Dan Duggan: Giants RB Cam Skattebo, who injured his hamstring on his long run in OT against the Texans, worked on the side with a trainer in the first post-bye practice.
With the Giants significantly shorthanded at RB, Eric Gray is back with the team and practicing today.

- Giants offensive snap counts vs. the Texans: • The Giants subbed Jameis Winston in for five tush-push plays. He converted sneaks on a third-and-1 and a fourth-and-1. It took him two tries to sneak it in from the 1 for a TD. All of the sneaks opened up the 19-yard handoff to Cam Skattebo from the tush-push alignment. • The backfield was shaping up as an even split before Tyrone Tracy left with a hamstring injury in the second quarter. Skattebo had played 14 snaps compared to 11 snaps for Tracy at that point. Both backs and Devin Singletary played on early third downs. As the game progressed, Singletary took over as the third-down back while mixing in on early downs. Skattebo indicated his hamstring was OK after the game and he has the bye to recover, but after Tracy's surprise addition to IR yesterday, let's wait and see where he's at when they return to practice next week. Skattebo missed chunks of time last offseason with a hamstring. It's tempting to look at the results when…

Giants placing Tracy on IR; Singletary likely to get more work
The Giants are placing RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, with Devin Singletary expected to play a bigger role on offense.

My favorite John Harbaugh quote last night was about Devin Singletary being inactive for Weeks 3, 4 and 5:
“That’s on me,” Harbaugh said. “That’s on me.”
You can’t hold a team accountable if you don’t take accountability yourself. And Harbaugh in one sentence implied he made a mistake prioritizing Najee Harris in the rotation during that stretch & owned up to it
That is what leadership looks like #giants

Giants-Texans pregame thoughts:
• There are different games during the season when you feel like you can learn a lot about a team. This feels like one of those games after the coaches turned up the heat this week. Had Harbaugh calling out a running back — any running back — to step up and Dennard Wilson putting the defense's effort on blast. This team has proven to be mentally tough this season, so we'll see how they respond today.
• JJ McCarthy is a total wild card. Really impossible to predict what we'll see him from today. But I do expect the offense to shift back to what we saw in the opener. McCarthy's legs should help open up some lanes on zone read. But the Texans have a stout run defense. Won't be easy to just ground-and-pound their way through this one.
• Cam Skattebo is out of the doghouse. Expecting a time share with Tyrone Tracy, with Devin Singletary mixed in. Harbaugh hoping someone emerges and they can ride that back.
• Malik Nabers has been on a tear: 6-112-1,…

I'll get to the defense shortly, but wanted to post this before anyone else gets cut! · Quoting Dan Duggan: Not enough hours in Mondays lately! Better late than never, here's the Giants' offensive snap counts vs. the Saints:
• Nobody, including Harbaugh, likes a four-man RB rotation. That needs to end. Eliminating Najee Harris from the equation is the obvious call. I note every week here how he has no juice. If he does fall out of the rotation, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the next vet sent packing.
Devin Singletary has done a nice job in limited reps, so if they want to keep him in the mix, maybe as the third-down back, that's fine. But it's time to go back to featuring Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy. They're the best RBs on the roster. And both should benefit whenever the change to JJ McCarthy comes, as that will open up some lanes on zone reads.

- Oct 18 Dan Duggan (X) Following up on this, I heard it was a pretty even split in reps this week between Skattebo and Harris. How will that play out in the game? Hard to say exactly, but I expect more Harris and less Skattebo than previous weeks. Tyrone Tracy has reclaimed the third-down RB role and has gotten a few early-down snaps. Would expect that to continue. It’s hard to get four RBs snaps, but I expect Devin Singletary to be active so I think they’ll find a way to get him on the field. · Quoting Dan Duggan: I would be very surprised if Skattebo has the same RB1 workload on Sunday that he's had in the first five games

Strong sign that Devin Singletary will be active after being a healthy scratch the past three games · Quoting Dan Duggan: Let's get through practice squad elevations first! That will impact the inactive list. OLB Trace Ford seems like a lock for his third straight elevation. My question is if they elevate WR Dalen Cambre again. Maybe I’m wrong but why is ricard on the field for 24% of plays ? · Quoting Dan Duggan: Apologies for the delay in the snap counts breakdown, but kids were off from school yesterday and puppy decided to snack on a sock so there was a fun emergency vet visit. Anyway, here are the Giants' offensive snap counts vs. the Commanders:
• I've never been a fan of rotating QBs. Even for all those years in New Orleans, I'm not sure taking one of the best QBs ever off the field for Taysom Hill was a smart strategy. And JJ McCarthy isn't Hill as a runner. They had a ton of confusion before one snap deep in the red zone (a 1-yard Tyrone Tracy run) and then Jameis Winston had a delay of game on the next play after shuttling back in at QB. The negatives outweigh the positives with the rotation. If you want to play McCarthy (eventually), just play him. Until then, let Winston be the QB.
