- Now what does this mean for the rest of the CB room? We could already count on Paulson Adebo and his $20M cap hit in 2027 being off the books. Will they also make a big investment in Deonte Banks considering they used a second-round pick on Colton Hood this year? Banks looks like a prime franchise tag candidate if he maintains his level of play · Quoting Dan Duggan: Quite a prove-it deal success story! Newsome cashes in six games into his one-year deal with the Giants. Newsome has played at a high level and is only 26
- Giants defensive snap counts vs. Texans: • It's so important to hit on a few mid-level free agent signings every offseason. The Giants certainly did with DJ Reader. His two-year, $12 million contract looks like an absolute bargain. Bobby Jamison-Travis has ditched the redshirt and might already be the second-best run-stopper on the D-line. His emergence allowed the Giants to use Darius Alexander almost exclusively in passing situations, which masks his deficiencies against the run. If there's a position I had to predict a trade, it's defensive tackle. This group is getting by, but could really use a solid piece to complement Reader. And I'd expect Dean Lowry to be a practice squad elevation before long. • Abdul Carter is a machine. He was back to playing nearly ever snap after being on a pitch count last week due to a calf injury. On the Texans' game-tying drive late in regulation every member of the D-line was on a knee catching their breath during a timeout and Carter was…

#Giants CB Deonte Banks has been awesome this season and deserves some shine.
• 10 PBUs (2nd in NFL)
• At least 1 PBU in every game
• 98-yard game-sealing pick-six vs. Arizona
• 20 tackles
• Team is 3-1-1 when he plays.
Great to see him playing to his potential. He’s a great story this season.

- Oct 25 Pat Leonard (X) Me to Deonte Banks: Do you know how many yards Nico Collins had? Banks: No, I don't know Me: Do you think he was over or under 10? Banks: Under Me: That's correct. 2 catches. 6 yards. How proud are you to do that to a receiver like that? Banks: I just try to keep going, keep getting better every snap What does it mean that the coaches gave him that matchup? Banks: It felt great. It's a great thing. Because they trust me to follow their number one #Giants #Texans
- Oct 25 Jordan Raanan (X) Deonte Banks is locking up Nico Collins so far.
- Oct 25 Dan Duggan (X) Texans were really committed to big personnel in the first half. Wasn't effective. Wonder if a halftime adjustment is spreading it out more to try to get their WRs more involved. Deonte Banks erased Nico Collins in the first half, but there are other potential matchups to exploit. Abdul Carter has been a problem though, so Houston probably trying to keep him from destroying the game.
- Oct 25 Dan Duggan (X) Wilson continues to bring the heat and it's working. Deonte Banks has been traveling with Nico Collins. Had him blanketed on that second-down PBU. Banks' play has improved more season-to-season than any player I've covered in 11 years on the beat · Quoting Dan Duggan: Dennard Wilson sent blitzes on second-and-14 and third-and-5. Heated up Stroud on the inaccurate third down pass.
- Oct 25 Jordan Raanan (X) Deonte Banks' coverage has been tremendous this season. Starting this game strong again vs. Nico Collins.
- Oct 25 Dan Duggan (X) Starting secondary in pregame warmups: CB Deonte Banks, CB Paulson Adebo, Slot Dru Phillips, S Jason Pinnock, S Ar'Darius Washington.
- Harbaugh essentially confirmed that CB Paulson Adebo will be activated from IR. I expect him to step in for Greg Newsome opposite Deonte Banks. Giants will need to make a roster move tomorrow to open a spot for Adebo.
- Giants CB Deonte Banks on facing Texans WR Nico Collins: "I mean, I accept all challenges. I’m up for any challenge, and I’m confident in my ability. He’s a good receiver. So I’m ready to go compete." What makes Collins different? "He’s bigger. He’s probably one of the biggest receivers in the league. He’s a strong guy, too."
- Giants-Saints defensive snap counts (trying to post before any more cuts): • Slight uptick in DJ Reader's playing time. Has to be incredibly challenging to limit his snaps because he is far and away their best DT. His TFL on third-and-goal before halftime could have been a game-changing play. Shelby Harris is a tier or two below, and then it drops off a cliff when they get to the young guys. • Abdul Carter was dominant early with the consecutive holding penalties. Bad tackles just don't have a chance against him. He was on a pitch count while playing through a calf injury. He was quieter as the game progressed, but it also turned into a run-heavy second half. Kayvon Thibodeaux has been better the past two weeks, but they still need more. The roughing the passer penalty was just unnecessary. I'll just say the Jihad Ward release was not a surprise. Trace Ford is out of practice squad elevations. I'm not sure it's a lock that he gets signed to the 53. You're seeing the difference…
- Giants-Saints pregame thoughts: • Finally, no rain! Will be nice to watch a game that isn't heavily impacted by the weather. • The Giants were forced into the best version of their offense because they were trailing by two scores in the second half of last week's game. Don't want Jameis Winston dropping back 60 times every week, but the best players on this offense are Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely. The offense needs to run through them. If you have to live with a bad pick here and there, that's OK because Jameis is also delivering yards/touchdowns. • Nabers saying he's only 80% back is encouraging considering he has 17 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games. That seems like an accurate assessment because he has left some plays on the field while being productive. This matchup should provide an opportunity for another big game. • Have covered the RB shake-up plenty. Not much more to say. I don't get the Najee Harris love from the coaching staff, but this…
- Giants Mailbag: Run Game Woes, Skattebo’s Fumbles, Deonte Banks’ Contract and More
- Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Commanders: • Very even split among the top three defensive tackles. That's mostly because Darius Alexander was used as an interior rusher on passing downs. He has replaced Chauncey Golston, while Jihad Ward replaced Kayvon Thibodeaux (who has shifted outside to replace Brian Burns). DJ Reader has been so steady. They've shown impressive discipline not over-using him, which can't be easy because the drop off is significant when he's off the field. Jacory Croskey-Merritt's 33-yard touchdown run on the opening drive came on the first play after Reader and Shelby Harris were replaced by Alexander and CJ Okoye. Okoye got easily displaced from the gap where the run went. Harris has been playing better recently, but the depth here is still a concern. Ward failed to make an impact in his debut in his role as an interior rusher on passing downs and a DE in the base 3-4. • Abdul Carter continues to play at an extremely high level. He had six pressures…

- Oct 5 Dan Duggan (X) Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Cardinals: • Uptick in snaps for DJ Reader and Shelby Harris. Reader has been quietly steady all season. Harris had his best game, highlighted by the tipped pass that turned into an Arvell Reese interception. Darius Alexander's playing time increased as he was back in the third-down package with Kayvon Thibodeaux bumped out to edge rusher. CJ Okoye had an impressive bull rush for his first career sack. Chauncey Golston played almost exclusively on the defensive line before leaving with a neck injury (he looked woozy) in the third quarter. Alexander and Reader were the interior DL on passing downs after Golston's departure. • Abdul Carter had a major impact rushing the passer regardless of what the box score says. He was constantly winning quickly and putting pressure on Jacoby Brissett. He has been off the field for four defensive snaps in the past two games. That's not sustainable. Need to find a way to rotate more even with Brian Burns…
- Oct 5 Dan Duggan (X) Banks has been the clearest example of the new coaching staff's impact.
