- The foot injury Micah McFadden suffered 11 snaps into last season killed his market in free agency. He re-signed with the Giants on a modest prove-it deal that looked regrettable after Arvell Reese unexpectedly slid to the fifth pick and bumped McFadden out of the starting lineup. Tremaine Edmunds' season-ending shoulder injury opened the door for McFadden to recoup some money this year in playing time incentives and in the future as he's set to hit the market again after this season
- Giants defensive snap counts vs. Texans: ⢠It's so important to hit on a few mid-level free agent signings every offseason. The Giants certainly did with DJ Reader. His two-year, $12 million contract looks like an absolute bargain. Bobby Jamison-Travis has ditched the redshirt and might already be the second-best run-stopper on the D-line. His emergence allowed the Giants to use Darius Alexander almost exclusively in passing situations, which masks his deficiencies against the run. If there's a position I had to predict a trade, it's defensive tackle. This group is getting by, but could really use a solid piece to complement Reader. And I'd expect Dean Lowry to be a practice squad elevation before long. ⢠Abdul Carter is a machine. He was back to playing nearly ever snap after being on a pitch count last week due to a calf injury. On the Texans' game-tying drive late in regulation every member of the D-line was on a knee catching their breath during a timeout and Carter wasâŚ

My theory on Nubin: He may be active just to serve as the personal protector on punts. That's an important role and Micah McFadden filled in for Nubin last week. With McFadden due for a full workload at MLB, his ST snaps need to be reduced. Might explain why ST coordinator Chris Horton was such a keen observer of Nubin's pregame workout ¡ Quoting Dan Duggan: Well, Nubin is active, so guess it went better than it looked. Practice squad elevation Raheem Layne is also active, so some depth built in at safety.
The inactives:
⢠QB Jake Haener (emergency QB)
⢠TE Theo Johnson
⢠OL Marcus Mbow
⢠OL Josh Sills
⢠CB Greg Newsome
⢠CB Nikko Reed
⢠S Jevon Holland
Mbow was questionable with a knee injury. JC Davis is the swing tackle today.

- Oct 25 Pat Leonard (X) Arvell Reese on new Giants MLB Micah McFadden: âI thought Micah played great, bro. Micah was literally everywhere. Iâd be running to the ball and Iâd see Micah flying to the ball like, what? âMicah played great, Micah flew around. Me and Micah communicated. Thatâs what we did all week, every presnap we were talking about seeing something. I tip my hat to Micah. It was his moment, he showed up and showed out.â
- Oct 25 Jordan Raanan (X) Are we sure the Giants are much worse, if at all, with Micah McFadden at middle linebacker rather than Tremaine Edmunds? McFadden had 10 tackles including two for a loss vs. Texans.
- Oct 25 Pat Leonard (X) How about Micah McFadden? A team-high 10 tackles in his first defensive start and work today at middle linebacker Dennard Wilsonâs Giants defense held Texans to 3 of 12 on third down, 237 total yards, 4.4 per play Bowed up in OT after allowing the late regulation TD. Abdul Carter 1 on 1 with that left tackle đł
- Oct 25 Aaron Wilson (X) #Texans offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery flagged for holding, declined. Incomplete. Micah McFadden knocked down C.J. Stroud. Punt time
- Oct 25 Pat Leonard (X) Kayvon Thibodeaux in the backfield there and Micah McFadden cleans up the run stop on 1st down+1
- Oct 25 Jordan Raanan (X) Micah McFadden playing a really good game. That was his 10th tackle, two are for a loss.
- Oct 25 Pat Leonard (X) Big time run stop by Micah McFadden there that nearly resulted in a fumble returned for TD. 3 yard tackle for loss
- Oct 25 Dan Duggan (X) Dennard Wilson called off the dogs on third-and-goal from the 6. Straight up four-man rush, no one got home and Stroud had a pinpoint TD pass to Marvin Harrison Jr. who was working against Micah McFadden in zone coverage.

- Oct 23 Jordan Raanan (X) Micah McFadden will take over at middle linebacker for Edmunds. Expect him to wear the green dot and call plays to the defense. Harbaugh reiterated Friday the Giants have always felt they have 3 starting ILBs with McFadden, Edmunds and Reese. McFadden has already shown he's a starting-caliber player in his career. ¡ Quoting Jordan Raanan: Giants LB Tremaine Edmonds has a torn muscle in his chest, per source. - Oct 23 Sal Capaccio (X) Tremaine Edmunds out for the season. ¡ Quoting Dan Duggan: Giants LB Tremaine Edmundsâ shoulder injury season-ending, per sources. Another major blow for the Giants, who have already lost QB Jaxson Dart and OLB Brian Burns and a handful of other contributors to season-ending injuries. Edmunds had played every defensive snap, helping rookie LB Arvell Reeseâs acclimation to the NFL. Micah McFadden steps into Edmundsâ role. John Harbaugh has stated that the Giants have three starting ILB, so McFadden gets his shot.+1
- Oct 23 Patricia Traina (Bluesky) The Giants can't seem to catch a break injury wise. According to The Athletic, ILB Tremaine Edmunds, who suffered a shoulder injury in last week's loss to the Saints, is done for the season. Micah McFadden is next in line to start. - Oct 23 Pat Leonard (X) Just saw early part of #Giants practice. I expect LB Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder), CB Greg Newsome (concussion) & TE Theo Johnson (neck) to be out vs Texans Looks like they should have both tackles Andrew Thomas & Jermaine Eluemunor, safety JevĂłn Holland and corner Paulson Adebo Will have official player statuses out this afternoon. Iâd expect Giants LB corps to be Micah McFadden & Arvell Reese
- Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson mentions rookie Arvell Reese as a possibility for the green dot/playcaller role on defense in Houston with middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds injured. The first name he said was Micah McFaddenâs. Said he has confidence in all the candidates, but stressed that Reese can handle it
- Giants-Saints defensive snap counts (trying to post before any more cuts): ⢠Slight uptick in DJ Reader's playing time. Has to be incredibly challenging to limit his snaps because he is far and away their best DT. His TFL on third-and-goal before halftime could have been a game-changing play. Shelby Harris is a tier or two below, and then it drops off a cliff when they get to the young guys. ⢠Abdul Carter was dominant early with the consecutive holding penalties. Bad tackles just don't have a chance against him. He was on a pitch count while playing through a calf injury. He was quieter as the game progressed, but it also turned into a run-heavy second half. Kayvon Thibodeaux has been better the past two weeks, but they still need more. The roughing the passer penalty was just unnecessary. I'll just say the Jihad Ward release was not a surprise. Trace Ford is out of practice squad elevations. I'm not sure it's a lock that he gets signed to the 53. You're seeing the differenceâŚ
- Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Commanders: ⢠Very even split among the top three defensive tackles. That's mostly because Darius Alexander was used as an interior rusher on passing downs. He has replaced Chauncey Golston, while Jihad Ward replaced Kayvon Thibodeaux (who has shifted outside to replace Brian Burns). DJ Reader has been so steady. They've shown impressive discipline not over-using him, which can't be easy because the drop off is significant when he's off the field. Jacory Croskey-Merritt's 33-yard touchdown run on the opening drive came on the first play after Reader and Shelby Harris were replaced by Alexander and CJ Okoye. Okoye got easily displaced from the gap where the run went. Harris has been playing better recently, but the depth here is still a concern. Ward failed to make an impact in his debut in his role as an interior rusher on passing downs and a DE in the base 3-4. ⢠Abdul Carter continues to play at an extremely high level. He had six pressuresâŚ
- Dennard Wilson is getting funky. Just had Micah McFadden getting his first defensive snap of the season on that third down. Dru Phillips gets home on a slot blitz.
- Giants captains: Micah McFadden, Cam Skattebo, D.J. Reader, Jermaine Eluemunor. They win the toss and defer to the 2nd half. Cardinals will start with the ball

- Sep 21 Dan Duggan (X) Deonte Banks is inactive. Giants will take that trade with Puka Nacua. Overlooked McFaddenâs questionable status since he was limited all week. - Sep 19 Dan Duggan (X) Nacua is questionable. Havenât really seen any tea leave reading from LA to indicate the level of questionable ¡ Quoting Dan Duggan: LB Micah McFadden (neck) and CB Deonte Banks (calf) both listed as questionable for Mondayâs game at the Rams. McFadden was limited all week, so feel much more optimistic about him than Banks, who didnât participate the past two days. RG Francis Mauigoa (shoulder) and CB Greg Newsome (rib) were upgraded to full participants today and have no game status so theyâre good to go. The biggest injury question is Rams WR Puka Nacua, who is dealing with a hip injury.

- Sep 19 Jordan Raanan (X) Doesn't look good for Deonte Banks. Paulson Adebo (knee) also on IR. This presumably has Colton Hood in line to start at cornerback opposite Greg Newsome. Tough spot for the rookie Hood vs. potentially Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
