My favorite John Harbaugh quote last night was about Devin Singletary being inactive for Weeks 3, 4 and 5:
“That’s on me,” Harbaugh said. “That’s on me.”
You can’t hold a team accountable if you don’t take accountability yourself. And Harbaugh in one sentence implied he made a mistake prioritizing Najee Harris in the rotation during that stretch & owned up to it
That is what leadership looks like #giants

Better late than never, here's the Giants' offensive snap counts vs. the Saints: • Nobody, including Harbaugh, likes a four-man RB rotation. That needs to end. Eliminating Najee Harris from the equation is the obvious call. I note every week here how he has no juice. If he does fall out of the rotation, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the next vet sent packing. Devin Singletary has done a nice job in limited reps, so if they want to keep him in the mix, maybe as the third-down back, that's fine. But it's time to go back to featuring Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy. They're the best RBs on the roster. And both should benefit whenever the change to JJ McCarthy comes, as that will open up some lanes on zone reads. Tracy played well Sunday considering no RB got anything going on the ground. Giants-Saints pregame thoughts:
• Finally, no rain! Will be nice to watch a game that isn't heavily impacted by the weather.
• The Giants were forced into the best version of their offense because they were trailing by two scores in the second half of last week's game. Don't want Jameis Winston dropping back 60 times every week, but the best players on this offense are Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely. The offense needs to run through them. If you have to live with a bad pick here and there, that's OK because Jameis is also delivering yards/touchdowns.
• Nabers saying he's only 80% back is encouraging considering he has 17 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games. That seems like an accurate assessment because he has left some plays on the field while being productive. This matchup should provide an opportunity for another big game.
• Have covered the RB shake-up plenty. Not much more to say. I don't get the Najee Harris love from the coaching staff, but this…

Maybe I’m wrong but why is ricard on the field for 24% of plays ? · Quoting Dan Duggan: Apologies for the delay in the snap counts breakdown, but kids were off from school yesterday and puppy decided to snack on a sock so there was a fun emergency vet visit. Anyway, here are the Giants' offensive snap counts vs. the Commanders:
• I've never been a fan of rotating QBs. Even for all those years in New Orleans, I'm not sure taking one of the best QBs ever off the field for Taysom Hill was a smart strategy. And JJ McCarthy isn't Hill as a runner. They had a ton of confusion before one snap deep in the red zone (a 1-yard Tyrone Tracy run) and then Jameis Winston had a delay of game on the next play after shuttling back in at QB. The negatives outweigh the positives with the rotation. If you want to play McCarthy (eventually), just play him. Until then, let Winston be the QB.
• They're in a tough spot at RB. Cam Skattebo is their best back, but he hasn't been effective this season (3.6…

The negatives outweigh the positives with the rotation. If you want to play McCarthy (eventually), just play him. Until then, let Winston be the QB. • They're in a tough spot at RB. Giants-Rams pregame thought No. 3. Here's my predictions for the practice squad elevations and the inactives:
• Expecting the same practice squad elevations as last week: WR/KR Braxton Berrios and OLB Malik Harrison.
Here’s my projection for the Giants’ inactives. Feel confident in the positions, but a few toss-ups:
• RB Najee Harris: As soon as Tyrone Tracy fumbled last week, I had Harris taking his spot on the active roster. But Tracy plays ST and his KR skills are valuable with Deonte Banks questionable (I don't think Banks plays). Harris’ time is coming.
• TE Thomas Fidone: No path to a game-day jersey if the tight ends stay healthy.
• OL JC Davis: Redshirt season barring a tackle injury.
• DL Bobby Jamison-Travis: Another redshirt candidate.
• DL CJ Okoye: Josh Tupou was signed to the 53 for a reason. This spot is a toss up between Okoye and Darius Alexander. Think Alexander gets the nod because he can play on passing downs.
• CB Deonte Banks: He’s listed as…

- Cam Skattebo is still a big part of what the Giants are going to do Sunday, but it did seem to me like Najee Harris was more involved during certain portions of practice that I was able to see. I'll be interested to what that split looks like vs. the Titans. Matt Nagy admitted Skattebo not being in on that red zone possession Monday was something they went back and re-evaluated. He also agreed they have to play FB Pat Ricard more. So I would think 44 still gets plenty of work. But Harris was signed here to play, too. So worth monitoring

They can't. That's why this isn't a discussion. They haven't gotten around to any switching numbers yet. Malachi Fields was still 0 (Brian Burns), Najee Harris was still 22 (Dru Phillips). Maybe they're just waiting until the roster is more settled and will make the official changes at the start of Week 1.
To be clear, I wasn't trying to put any shade on Hyatt. I think it was fine not to give up 13 when Odell signed in June and it wasn't clear if he'd make the team (don't think Odell even asked for it then). - Oct 19 Jordan Raanan (X) Jameis Winston or J.J. McCarthy? Cam Skattebo, Najee Harris, Tyrone Tracy Jr or Devin Singletary? The Giants have some decisions to make.+1
- Cam Skattebo’s ball security issues will only invite defenders to attack the ball more. Curious to see if Skattebo’s carries are reduced. This could be the opening for Najee Harris against a bad Saints run D · Quoting NOF: “The way he plays, he’s always fighting for extra yards, so it’s gonna be up to us to populate the ball and get that ball out.” #Saints EDGE Cam Jordan on #Giants RB Cam Skattebo.
- Najee Harris 7-yard run is longest of the day for the Giants. Skattebo also has a 7-yarder.
- Giants' offensive snap counts vs. Cardinals: • Cam Skattebo still the clear RB1. He's averaging 3.1 yards per carry over the past three games. It's very hard to have a run game with such little explosiveness. Love how hard he runs, but need to make a guy miss once in a while at the second level. I continue to be unimpressed by Najee Harris. Really lumbering. This backfield really needs some lightning to go with all the thunder. Fumbles haven't been an issue during Harris' career, but that could have been a killer at a time when ball security was paramount. Tyrone Tracy got more snaps after barely playing in the first three games. He split third-down snaps with Skattebo. If they're going to get explosives in the run game, they'll come from Tracy. Typical workload for Pat Ricard as the Giants played a lot of big personnel. • Offense looks a lot easier when Malik Nabers is involved. Liked scheming him touches downfield rather than force-feeding him underneath/screens. I still have…
- Giants-Titans offensive snap counts: • Cam Skattebo clearly RB1. He took over as the third-down RB with Devin Singletary inactive. Skattebo’s running style is so punishing. If he had just a bit more wiggle he’d be unstoppable, but he somehow still felt productive on a day when he averaged 3 ypc. He was fortunate that he kicked a fumble out of bounds. That’s two fumbles in three games. Hasn’t hurt them yet, but that luck will run out if he keeps putting the ball on the ground. Najee Harris has quickly taken over as RB2. The numbers look good (9 carries, 52 yards), but he has very little juice. His running style fits the offense they’re building, but I’m skeptical he’s their second-best RB. Tyrone Tracy has a game-day spot because he’s the only RB who plays ST. Weird how two weeks in a row he’s gotten one carry in a high-leverage spot. Was surprised that Singletary was a healthy scratch, but it’s hard to dress four RB. Figure Brian Burns took his spot. As Matt Nagy promised,…

- Giants offensive snap counts vs. Cowboys: • Cam Skattebo very clearly RB1, as expected. We made such a big deal about Malik Nabers' return, but can't overlook that was Skattebo's first game since his own significant injury. He still runs insanely hard. I thought Tyrone Tracy would be RB2, but that was clearly Devin Singletary. Tracy didn't play an offensive snap after his second-quarter fumble and I think he's on the fast track to taking Najee Harris' spot as a healthy scratch. I don't love giving Singletary many carries. He gets what's there and not much more. But he was the passing down back and was very effective when the Cowboys inexplicably neglected to cover him in the flat for an entire drive. • They rotated receivers/personnel packages at a dizzying rate. Not surprised that Malachi Fields was the clear leader in WR snaps. His blocking is going to have him on the field a lot. You saw them take some vertical shots to him, and he made a great diving catch on one but was out…

Probably going to call on more of a game manager performance from Jameis Winston. I remain intrigued by the idea of a JJ McCarthy package. He's more mobile than Winston, but I don't view him as some huge run threat. Maybe they insert him in the red zone if the offense is struggling. • The Commanders run defense has been solid, but the Giants need to find a way to generate some explosives. I think reintegrating Tyrone Tracy is the best route to that, but not expecting a huge uptick in his usage. Think we'll continue to see more of Najee Harris. Wouldn't be surprised by some jumbo packages, especially with the lack of WR depth. • Malik Nabers wasn't happy with his lack of targets in the second half of last week's game. This is a favorable matchup for Nabers, but the weather may limit his opportunities. Interested to see how they manage…

- Sep 22 Dan Duggan (X) Giants offensive snap counts vs. Rams: • You can't have a four RB rotation. Usage feels forced to get RBs 3 and 4 involved. Like Tyrone Tracy getting his lone snap/carry in a high-leverage situation after the fumble recovery deep in Rams territory. Weird spot to use a player with his ball security issues, but the 3-yard loss got negated by a defensive penalty. Then Cam Skattebo got a carry for no gain before Najee Harris was inserted for two carries (3 yards, -3 yards). No one got anything going on the ground, but Skattebo should be the back in all short yardage/red zone situations. Pat Ricard played 31% of the snaps after being at 54% in the opener. That felt game flow dependent, as the Giants mostly played 11 personnel while trailing in the second half. • Malik Nabers' snap share jumped to 74% from 52% in the opener. He only missed two snaps with the shoulder injury. Hard to say how much the lack of production was tied to his physical state and how much was the dysfunctional…
