Tyrone Tracy Jr.: Injured Reserve
Oct 27: The Giants placed Tracy (hamstring) on injured reserve Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
- Giants offensive snap counts vs. the Texans: • The Giants subbed Jameis Winston in for five tush-push plays. He converted sneaks on a third-and-1 and a fourth-and-1. It took him two tries to sneak it in from the 1 for a TD. All of the sneaks opened up the 19-yard handoff to Cam Skattebo from the tush-push alignment. • The backfield was shaping up as an even split before Tyrone Tracy left with a hamstring injury in the second quarter. Skattebo had played 14 snaps compared to 11 snaps for Tracy at that point. Both backs and Devin Singletary played on early third downs. As the game progressed, Singletary took over as the third-down back while mixing in on early downs. Skattebo indicated his hamstring was OK after the game and he has the bye to recover, but after Tracy's surprise addition to IR yesterday, let's wait and see where he's at when they return to practice next week. Skattebo missed chunks of time last offseason with a hamstring. It's tempting to look at the results when…

- Oct 25 Dan Duggan (X) Giants-Texans pregame thoughts: • There are different games during the season when you feel like you can learn a lot about a team. This feels like one of those games after the coaches turned up the heat this week. Had Harbaugh calling out a running back — any running back — to step up and Dennard Wilson putting the defense's effort on blast. This team has proven to be mentally tough this season, so we'll see how they respond today. • JJ McCarthy is a total wild card. Really impossible to predict what we'll see him from today. But I do expect the offense to shift back to what we saw in the opener. McCarthy's legs should help open up some lanes on zone read. But the Texans have a stout run defense. Won't be easy to just ground-and-pound their way through this one. • Cam Skattebo is out of the doghouse. Expecting a time share with Tyrone Tracy, with Devin Singletary mixed in. Harbaugh hoping someone emerges and they can ride that back. • Malik Nabers has been on a tear: 6-112-1,…

I'll get to the defense shortly, but wanted to post this before anyone else gets cut! · Quoting Dan Duggan: Not enough hours in Mondays lately! Better late than never, here's the Giants' offensive snap counts vs. the Saints:
• Nobody, including Harbaugh, likes a four-man RB rotation. That needs to end. Eliminating Najee Harris from the equation is the obvious call. I note every week here how he has no juice. If he does fall out of the rotation, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the next vet sent packing.
Devin Singletary has done a nice job in limited reps, so if they want to keep him in the mix, maybe as the third-down back, that's fine. But it's time to go back to featuring Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy. They're the best RBs on the roster. And both should benefit whenever the change to JJ McCarthy comes, as that will open up some lanes on zone reads.

- Oct 18 Dan Duggan (X) Following up on this, I heard it was a pretty even split in reps this week between Skattebo and Harris. How will that play out in the game? Hard to say exactly, but I expect more Harris and less Skattebo than previous weeks. Tyrone Tracy has reclaimed the third-down RB role and has gotten a few early-down snaps. Would expect that to continue. It’s hard to get four RBs snaps, but I expect Devin Singletary to be active so I think they’ll find a way to get him on the field. · Quoting Dan Duggan: I would be very surprised if Skattebo has the same RB1 workload on Sunday that he's had in the first five games

Maybe I’m wrong but why is ricard on the field for 24% of plays ? · Quoting Dan Duggan: Apologies for the delay in the snap counts breakdown, but kids were off from school yesterday and puppy decided to snack on a sock so there was a fun emergency vet visit. Anyway, here are the Giants' offensive snap counts vs. the Commanders:
• I've never been a fan of rotating QBs. Even for all those years in New Orleans, I'm not sure taking one of the best QBs ever off the field for Taysom Hill was a smart strategy. And JJ McCarthy isn't Hill as a runner. They had a ton of confusion before one snap deep in the red zone (a 1-yard Tyrone Tracy run) and then Jameis Winston had a delay of game on the next play after shuttling back in at QB. The negatives outweigh the positives with the rotation. If you want to play McCarthy (eventually), just play him. Until then, let Winston be the QB.
• They're in a tough spot at RB. Cam Skattebo is their best back, but he hasn't been effective this season (3.6…

- Great play call by Matt Nagy on this fourth down. Giants were down 13 in the third quarter at the time. Tyrone Tracy Jr. takes advantage of the opportunity.

- Oct 11 Dan Duggan (X) Giants-Commanders (obviously watching the game while I type this!) pregame thoughts: • Would expect a ground-heavy game plan in these conditions. Probably going to call on more of a game manager performance from Jameis Winston. I remain intrigued by the idea of a JJ McCarthy package. He's more mobile than Winston, but I don't view him as some huge run threat. Maybe they insert him in the red zone if the offense is struggling. • The Commanders run defense has been solid, but the Giants need to find a way to generate some explosives. I think reintegrating Tyrone Tracy is the best route to that, but not expecting a huge uptick in his usage. Think we'll continue to see more of Najee Harris. Wouldn't be surprised by some jumbo packages, especially with the lack of WR depth. • Malik Nabers wasn't happy with his lack of targets in the second half of last week's game. This is a favorable matchup for Nabers, but the weather may limit his opportunities. Interested to see how they manage…
- Giants' offensive snap counts vs. Cardinals: • Cam Skattebo still the clear RB1. He's averaging 3.1 yards per carry over the past three games. It's very hard to have a run game with such little explosiveness. Love how hard he runs, but need to make a guy miss once in a while at the second level. I continue to be unimpressed by Najee Harris. Really lumbering. This backfield really needs some lightning to go with all the thunder. Fumbles haven't been an issue during Harris' career, but that could have been a killer at a time when ball security was paramount. Tyrone Tracy got more snaps after barely playing in the first three games. He split third-down snaps with Skattebo. If they're going to get explosives in the run game, they'll come from Tracy. Typical workload for Pat Ricard as the Giants played a lot of big personnel. • Offense looks a lot easier when Malik Nabers is involved. Liked scheming him touches downfield rather than force-feeding him underneath/screens. I still have…

- Oct 4 Dan Duggan (X) Some boos after a 1-yard pass on third-and-12. Giants going to need a 50-yard FG from Dominic Zvada to salvage something from Tyrone Tracy's 55-yard kickoff return. Zvada was good from 55 in this direction in warmups.
- Oct 4 Pat Leonard (X) Tyrone Tracy Jr. with a 55-yard kickoff return for the Giants. That's the help this offense needs

- Oct 1 Pat Leonard (X) No Andrew Thomas or Malik Harrison (with trainer) again today. Tyrone Tracy back on the field Hope for Deonte Banks and Tyler Nubin to return Sunday, it seems. Another VERY quick open practice period. J.J. McCarthy participating but doing plenty of watching/listening (helmet off, picking people’s brains as the other two QBs were rotating in walkthrough and routes on air) #Giants
