Tremaine Edmunds out for the season. · Quoting Dan Duggan: Giants LB Tremaine Edmunds’ shoulder injury season-ending, per sources.
Another major blow for the Giants, who have already lost QB Jaxson Dart and OLB Brian Burns and a handful of other contributors to season-ending injuries.
Edmunds had played every defensive snap, helping rookie LB Arvell Reese’s acclimation to the NFL. Micah McFadden steps into Edmunds’ role. John Harbaugh has stated that the Giants have three starting ILB, so McFadden gets his shot.

Brian Burns: Injured Reserve
Sep 29: The Giants placed Burns (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
- The Giants are blitzing at a 56.6% rate the past two weeks. DBs came at a crazy pace vs. Washington. Is this the Brian Burns fallout or was it more matchup?
- Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Commanders: • Very even split among the top three defensive tackles. That's mostly because Darius Alexander was used as an interior rusher on passing downs. He has replaced Chauncey Golston, while Jihad Ward replaced Kayvon Thibodeaux (who has shifted outside to replace Brian Burns). DJ Reader has been so steady. They've shown impressive discipline not over-using him, which can't be easy because the drop off is significant when he's off the field. Jacory Croskey-Merritt's 33-yard touchdown run on the opening drive came on the first play after Reader and Shelby Harris were replaced by Alexander and CJ Okoye. Okoye got easily displaced from the gap where the run went. Harris has been playing better recently, but the depth here is still a concern. Ward failed to make an impact in his debut in his role as an interior rusher on passing downs and a DE in the base 3-4. • Abdul Carter continues to play at an extremely high level. He had six pressures…

Brian Burns: Injured Reserve
Sep 29: The Giants placed Burns (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
- Looked like Abdul Carter did the Spiderman celly for Brian Burns. · Quoting Jordan Raanan: Abdul Carter with his second sack of the season. #Giants
- Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Cardinals: • Uptick in snaps for DJ Reader and Shelby Harris. Reader has been quietly steady all season. Harris had his best game, highlighted by the tipped pass that turned into an Arvell Reese interception. Darius Alexander's playing time increased as he was back in the third-down package with Kayvon Thibodeaux bumped out to edge rusher. CJ Okoye had an impressive bull rush for his first career sack. Chauncey Golston played almost exclusively on the defensive line before leaving with a neck injury (he looked woozy) in the third quarter. Alexander and Reader were the interior DL on passing downs after Golston's departure. • Abdul Carter had a major impact rushing the passer regardless of what the box score says. He was constantly winning quickly and putting pressure on Jacoby Brissett. He has been off the field for four defensive snaps in the past two games. That's not sustainable. Need to find a way to rotate more even with Brian Burns…

- Sep 28 Jordan Raanan (X) Brian Burns had at least 7.5 sacks in each of his first seven seasons. He's likely to end this year with 0. Burns was intent on playing Sunday despite an ankle injury. Didn't practice all week. But he's a warrior and got on the field. In the end, it likely turns out to be his final game of the season.
- Sep 28 Dan Duggan (X) Giants-Titans defensive snap counts: • DJ Reader and Shelby Harris have held steady around 50% of the snaps in all three games. Darius Alexander back in the mix after being a healthy scratch in Week 2. He figures to see more time on passing downs in Brian Burns’ absence. • Didn’t even consider the possibility of Burns playing after he missed practice all week with a sprained ankle. They started out using him only on third downs, but he eventually got some early-down snaps as the game progressed. Impossible to say if the ankle injury contributed to the ACL. I’d be more inclined to blame the turf. It’s weird to not feel great about a defensive performance that yielded just seven points. But the lack of pass rush was alarming. Abdul Carter played 97% of the snaps, and that was with Burns still in the mix. That’s not sustainable. Kayvon Thibodeaux was quiet in his most extensive PT of the season. Going to need to pick it up with Burns out. • Arvell Reese looked like a top five…
- Sep 28 Dan Duggan (X) Giants-Titans offensive snap counts: • Cam Skattebo clearly RB1. He took over as the third-down RB with Devin Singletary inactive. Skattebo’s running style is so punishing. If he had just a bit more wiggle he’d be unstoppable, but he somehow still felt productive on a day when he averaged 3 ypc. He was fortunate that he kicked a fumble out of bounds. That’s two fumbles in three games. Hasn’t hurt them yet, but that luck will run out if he keeps putting the ball on the ground. Najee Harris has quickly taken over as RB2. The numbers look good (9 carries, 52 yards), but he has very little juice. His running style fits the offense they’re building, but I’m skeptical he’s their second-best RB. Tyrone Tracy has a game-day spot because he’s the only RB who plays ST. Weird how two weeks in a row he’s gotten one carry in a high-leverage spot. Was surprised that Singletary was a healthy scratch, but it’s hard to dress four RB. Figure Brian Burns took his spot. As Matt Nagy promised,…

- Sep 28 Ed Valentine (Bluesky) Brian Burns reportedly becomes second #NYGiants star lost for the season to a knee injury in as many weeks.
- Sep 28 Dan Duggan (X) Brian Burns has two years remaining on his contract with $44M cap hits in 2027 and 2028. He was going to be up for a new deal after this season to lower those cap hits and lock the 28-year-old in longer. Now, uncertainty. Meanwhile, Kayvon Thibodeaux gets 14 games as an every-down OLB. Huge opportunity for him in a contract year. Giants are going to need to reconfigure their front seven. Not sure they can have Chauncey Golston playing as much DL when he’s also the top backup OLB now. This means Darius Alexander is likely going to get a new life as an interior pass rusher.
- Sep 28 Dan Duggan (X) Just brutal. - Projected inactives: • TE Thomas Fidone. Weekly healthy scratch. • OL JC Davis: Weekly healthy scratch. • DL Bobby Jamison-Travis: Weekly healthy scratch. • DL Darius Alexander. Signing Josh Tupou instead of elevating him last week signals a shift in the pecking order. • OLB Brian Burns (ankle): Not sure why they listed him as questionable, but at least it doesn’t appear long-term. • CB Deonte Banks (calf): Expecting another start for Colton Hood. • S Tyler Nubin (calf): Expecting Ar’Darius Washington to step in. Nubin can’t miss much time because his job security is slipping after Monday night. • I think Berrios and Harrison get signed to the 53 next week, but the Giants are maintaining maximum flexibility. · Quoting NYGfaninCLT: Hey @DDuggan21, the PS elevations are in… -Who are your projected Inactives? 4 RBs again? -Berrios & Harrison are out of elevations.
