- Oct 25 Dan Duggan (X) My theory on Nubin: He may be active just to serve as the personal protector on punts. That's an important role and Micah McFadden filled in for Nubin last week. With McFadden due for a full workload at MLB, his ST snaps need to be reduced. Might explain why ST coordinator Chris Horton was such a keen observer of Nubin's pregame workout · Quoting Dan Duggan: Well, Nubin is active, so guess it went better than it looked. Practice squad elevation Raheem Layne is also active, so some depth built in at safety. The inactives: • QB Jake Haener (emergency QB) • TE Theo Johnson • OL Marcus Mbow • OL Josh Sills • CB Greg Newsome • CB Nikko Reed • S Jevon Holland Mbow was questionable with a knee injury. JC Davis is the swing tackle today.

Nubin hit a pad, hit the goal post and did some DB drills. He then had a long conversation with ST coordinator Chris Horton and trainers and went back and hit the goal post a few more times. - Oct 25 Dan Duggan (X) Giants-Texans pregame thoughts: • There are different games during the season when you feel like you can learn a lot about a team. This feels like one of those games after the coaches turned up the heat this week. Had Harbaugh calling out a running back — any running back — to step up and Dennard Wilson putting the defense's effort on blast. This team has proven to be mentally tough this season, so we'll see how they respond today. • JJ McCarthy is a total wild card. Really impossible to predict what we'll see him from today. But I do expect the offense to shift back to what we saw in the opener. McCarthy's legs should help open up some lanes on zone read. But the Texans have a stout run defense. Won't be easy to just ground-and-pound their way through this one. • Cam Skattebo is out of the doghouse. Expecting a time share with Tyrone Tracy, with Devin Singletary mixed in. Harbaugh hoping someone emerges and they can ride that back. • Malik Nabers has been on a tear: 6-112-1,…

- Giants-Saints pregame thoughts: • Finally, no rain! Will be nice to watch a game that isn't heavily impacted by the weather. • The Giants were forced into the best version of their offense because they were trailing by two scores in the second half of last week's game. Don't want Jameis Winston dropping back 60 times every week, but the best players on this offense are Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely. The offense needs to run through them. If you have to live with a bad pick here and there, that's OK because Jameis is also delivering yards/touchdowns. • Nabers saying he's only 80% back is encouraging considering he has 17 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games. That seems like an accurate assessment because he has left some plays on the field while being productive. This matchup should provide an opportunity for another big game. • Have covered the RB shake-up plenty. Not much more to say. I don't get the Najee Harris love from the coaching staff, but this…

- Giants-Rams pregame thought No. 8: This game might hinge on Puka Nacua’s status. The Giants put Paulson Adebo on IR and I’m not expecting Deonte Banks to play due to a calf injury. That leaves Greg Newsome, who is banged up coming out of the opener, and rookie Colton Hood as the top corners with shaky depth behind them. Behind them are slot corners and players with minimal experience. The Giants don’t have anyone to match-up physically with Nacua, but he may not play due to a groin injury.

Nacua is questionable. Haven’t really seen any tea leave reading from LA to indicate the level of questionable · Quoting Dan Duggan: LB Micah McFadden (neck) and CB Deonte Banks (calf) both listed as questionable for Monday’s game at the Rams. McFadden was limited all week, so feel much more optimistic about him than Banks, who didn’t participate the past two days.
RG Francis Mauigoa (shoulder) and CB Greg Newsome (rib) were upgraded to full participants today and have no game status so they’re good to go.
The biggest injury question is Rams WR Puka Nacua, who is dealing with a hip injury.

Game Plays 8 in-game updates such as touchdowns, sacks and drives
- Giants-Saints defensive snap counts (trying to post before any more cuts): • Slight uptick in DJ Reader's playing time. Has to be incredibly challenging to limit his snaps because he is far and away their best DT. His TFL on third-and-goal before halftime could have been a game-changing play. Shelby Harris is a tier or two below, and then it drops off a cliff when they get to the young guys. • Abdul Carter was dominant early with the consecutive holding penalties. Bad tackles just don't have a chance against him. He was on a pitch count while playing through a calf injury. He was quieter as the game progressed, but it also turned into a run-heavy second half. Kayvon Thibodeaux has been better the past two weeks, but they still need more. The roughing the passer penalty was just unnecessary. I'll just say the Jihad Ward release was not a surprise. Trace Ford is out of practice squad elevations. I'm not sure it's a lock that he gets signed to the 53. You're seeing the difference…
- Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Commanders: • Very even split among the top three defensive tackles. That's mostly because Darius Alexander was used as an interior rusher on passing downs. He has replaced Chauncey Golston, while Jihad Ward replaced Kayvon Thibodeaux (who has shifted outside to replace Brian Burns). DJ Reader has been so steady. They've shown impressive discipline not over-using him, which can't be easy because the drop off is significant when he's off the field. Jacory Croskey-Merritt's 33-yard touchdown run on the opening drive came on the first play after Reader and Shelby Harris were replaced by Alexander and CJ Okoye. Okoye got easily displaced from the gap where the run went. Harris has been playing better recently, but the depth here is still a concern. Ward failed to make an impact in his debut in his role as an interior rusher on passing downs and a DE in the base 3-4. • Abdul Carter continues to play at an extremely high level. He had six pressures…
- Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Cardinals: • Uptick in snaps for DJ Reader and Shelby Harris. Reader has been quietly steady all season. Harris had his best game, highlighted by the tipped pass that turned into an Arvell Reese interception. Darius Alexander's playing time increased as he was back in the third-down package with Kayvon Thibodeaux bumped out to edge rusher. CJ Okoye had an impressive bull rush for his first career sack. Chauncey Golston played almost exclusively on the defensive line before leaving with a neck injury (he looked woozy) in the third quarter. Alexander and Reader were the interior DL on passing downs after Golston's departure. • Abdul Carter had a major impact rushing the passer regardless of what the box score says. He was constantly winning quickly and putting pressure on Jacoby Brissett. He has been off the field for four defensive snaps in the past two games. That's not sustainable. Need to find a way to rotate more even with Brian Burns…

But defense catches a break as Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur inexplicably calls two passes to start the next drive (team is averaging 9.0 per carry). Arvell Reese gets to Brissett, hits his right wrist and Greg Newsome INTs the fluttering pass. First down Giants Newsome sprinted backwards to his own end zone with the ball. It wasn't clear he was down. Harbaugh speaks to Newsome on the sideline. Giants ball tho. Big play

- Sep 27 Pat Leonard (X) Former Giant Wan'Dale Robinson with a drop on 3rd down as Greg Newsome makes the hit. Giants force a punt
- Giants defensive snap counts vs. Rams: • This was the matchup that was going to put the remade interior defensive line to the test. The Rams running backs averaged 6.8 yards per carry. DJ Reader and Shelby Harris have been around 50% of the snaps in each of the first two games. This was the expectation with two older DT, so that leaves a lot of snaps for backups. Darius Alexander was a healthy scratch, while the players in his place failed to make an impact. Chauncey Golston is playing a lot of snaps because he's a starting DL in the base (Giants played more 3-4 last night) and he rushes inside on passing downs. Still not convinced playing him inside so much is the best use of his skill set. • Abdul Carter with another heavy workload. Other than the sack, a quiet game. Nowhere near the impact he had in the opener. Pass rush was quiet overall. Similar refrain about chip blocks and QB getting the ball out quick. Need to figure out a counter because can't just have a QB like Matthew…
- Jaxson Dart is still in the tent. Jameis Winston is now in at QB after Greg Newsome’s third down stop on Davante Adams and a Rams punt
- Giants defensive snap counts vs. Cowboys: • As someone who charts the personnel live by hand, I appreciate that Dennard Wilson had very strong patterns to his substitutions. DJ Reader and Shelby Harris are clearly the top two interior DL. Getting away with playing the vets less than 50 percent of the snaps and holding the Cowboys to 3.8 yards per carry is a big win. When they were out on early downs, Darius Alexander and CJ Okoye took over. On third downs, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Chauncey Golston were the interior DL. Golston is a versatile piece. He can play DE in the base, DT in sub packages and OLB when needed in that rotation. • Thibodeaux is being asked to make the biggest sacrifice to accommodate this front seven because Abdul Carter and Brian Burns are playing nearly every snap on the edge. Nice hustle by Thibodeaux to chase Dak Prescott on his interception. Carter had a game like many in his rookie year, where there are no sacks in the box score, but his presence was…

- Giants defensive snap counts vs. Texans: • It's so important to hit on a few mid-level free agent signings every offseason. The Giants certainly did with DJ Reader. His two-year, $12 million contract looks like an absolute bargain. Bobby Jamison-Travis has ditched the redshirt and might already be the second-best run-stopper on the D-line. His emergence allowed the Giants to use Darius Alexander almost exclusively in passing situations, which masks his deficiencies against the run. If there's a position I had to predict a trade, it's defensive tackle. This group is getting by, but could really use a solid piece to complement Reader. And I'd expect Dean Lowry to be a practice squad elevation before long. • Abdul Carter is a machine. He was back to playing nearly ever snap after being on a pitch count last week due to a calf injury. On the Texans' game-tying drive late in regulation every member of the D-line was on a knee catching their breath during a timeout and Carter was…

- Oct 23 Dan Duggan (X) Among the five questionable players, the two safeties are the most uncertain from what I’ve gathered. I believe Jevon Holland will try to get final clearance from the concussion protocol in the morning before the team flies to Houston. Impossible to predict how that will go. Tyler Nubin’s status is up in the air as well. Expecting Paulson Adebo to be activated and start at corner. Jermaine Eluemunor and Marcus Mbow being limited the past two days is encouraging, but don’t have definitive word on their statuses. No game status for Andrew Thomas, so he’s good to go (or at least as good as he can be with the lingering groin injury). · Quoting Dan Salomone: Giants Game Statuses for Week 7 Out: ▪️LB Tremaine Edmunds (Shoulder) ▪️CB Greg Newsome II (Concussion) Doubtful: ▪️TE Theo Johnson (Neck) Questionable: ▪️CB Paulson Adebo (Knee) ▪️RT Jermaine Eluemunor (Calf) ▪️S Jevón Holland (Concussion) ▪️OL Marcus Mbow (Knee) ▪️S Tyler Nubin (Neck)
- Oct 23 Dan Duggan (X) Harbaugh essentially confirmed that CB Paulson Adebo will be activated from IR. I expect him to step in for Greg Newsome opposite Deonte Banks. Giants will need to make a roster move tomorrow to open a spot for Adebo.
- Oct 23 Jordan Raanan (X) CB Paulson Adebo looked to be moving well at practice this week. He could factor into the situation and be activated off IR. · Quoting Jordan Raanan: No LB Tremaine Edmunds or CB Greg Newsome at practice. Hard to imagine them playing vs. Texans. TE Theo Johnson (neck) worked on side. Might also miss his second straight game.

I expect LB Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder), CB Greg Newsome (concussion) & TE Theo Johnson (neck) to be out vs Texans Looks like they should have both tackles Andrew Thomas & Jermaine Eluemunor, safety Jevón Holland and corner Paulson Adebo Will have official player statuses out this afternoon. I’d expect Giants LB corps to be Micah McFadden & Arvell Reese

- Giants-Titans defensive snap counts: • DJ Reader and Shelby Harris have held steady around 50% of the snaps in all three games. Darius Alexander back in the mix after being a healthy scratch in Week 2. He figures to see more time on passing downs in Brian Burns’ absence. • Didn’t even consider the possibility of Burns playing after he missed practice all week with a sprained ankle. They started out using him only on third downs, but he eventually got some early-down snaps as the game progressed. Impossible to say if the ankle injury contributed to the ACL. I’d be more inclined to blame the turf. It’s weird to not feel great about a defensive performance that yielded just seven points. But the lack of pass rush was alarming. Abdul Carter played 97% of the snaps, and that was with Burns still in the mix. That’s not sustainable. Kayvon Thibodeaux was quiet in his most extensive PT of the season. Going to need to pick it up with Burns out. • Arvell Reese looked like a top five…
