- Couple salary cap/roster notes: • The Giants are $1.3M over the cap, according to the NFLPA database. They will need to be under by Wednesday because top 51 accounting ends when the season starts. They don't need to do anything dramatic since they only need a few million to operate (at least for now). Paulson Adebo, Jevon Holland, Darius Slayton and Jon Runyan have the biggest base salaries for a restructure. It doesn't really matter who they restructure, but Schoen has typically avoided restructures on possible cap casualties, so from that group, I suspect Holland will be first up. • Schoen teased the signing of a veteran defensive lineman to the practice squad next week (don't think Jihad Ward's IG video was an announcement). Giants offensive snap counts vs. Cowboys:
• Cam Skattebo very clearly RB1, as expected. We made such a big deal about Malik Nabers' return, but can't overlook that was Skattebo's first game since his own significant injury. He still runs insanely hard.
I thought Tyrone Tracy would be RB2, but that was clearly Devin Singletary. Tracy didn't play an offensive snap after his second-quarter fumble and I think he's on the fast track to taking Najee Harris' spot as a healthy scratch.
I don't love giving Singletary many carries. He gets what's there and not much more. But he was the passing down back and was very effective when the Cowboys inexplicably neglected to cover him in the flat for an entire drive.
• They rotated receivers/personnel packages at a dizzying rate. Not surprised that Malachi Fields was the clear leader in WR snaps. His blocking is going to have him on the field a lot. You saw them take some vertical shots to him, and he made a great diving catch on one but was out…

We made such a big deal about Malik Nabers' return, but can't overlook that was Skattebo's first game since his own significant injury. He still runs insanely hard. I thought Tyrone Tracy would be RB2, but that was clearly Devin Singletary. Tracy didn't play an offensive snap after his second-quarter fumble and I think he's on the fast track to taking Najee Harris' spot as a healthy scratch. I don't love giving Singletary many carries. He gets what's there and not much more. But he was the passing down back and was very effective when the Cowboys inexplicably neglected to cover him in the flat for an entire drive. • They rotated receivers/personnel packages at a dizzying rate. Also expect him to return kickoffs alongside Deonte Banks. LB Malik Harrison is the other strong possibility. Harrison was a core special teamer in Baltimore from 2020-24, so I think they brought him in to play. The Giants have an open roster spot, but not expecting them to fill it today because signing a vet like Berrios or Harrison would guarantee their salary for the season. They can wait to sign one next week or continue the elevations for the first three games. As I noted yesterday, I don’t think the elevations will tell us anything about Malik Nabers’ status *unless* they sign/elevate a second WR from the practice squad. That would be a very bad sign. Question is which one gets signed to the 53. My guess is it won’t be Haener since it sounds like they’re planning to bring in someone to take over as QB2 imminently.
