Chop Robinson: Not sure why I got called for roughing Patrick Mahomes, but I had to play on
Dolphins linebacker Chop Robinson is not complaining about the controversial penalty he got for roughing Patrick Mahomes on Sunday, but he is wondering what he could have done differently.
-
The dispute I'd have about this judgment call is the term "unnecessarily or violently."
Chop Robinson was straight on rushing Mahomes, and him pulling up his arms indicates it wasn't done violently.
But it was Patrick Mahomes, the league's golden boy. Ā· Quoting Alain Poupart: This is part of the NFL rulebook: "When tackling a passer who is in a defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down or land on top of him with all or most of the defenderās weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to fall to the side of the quarterbackās body, or to brace his fall with his arms to avoid landing on the quarterback with all or most of his body weight." ... The ONLY conceivable argument you could have that Robinson shouldn't have been flagged is if you believe he didn't land on Mahomes with most of his body weight, and I dare you to tell me that's likely based on the replays.
