- 2d Darren Urban (Bluesky) After I wrote a story about Michael Wilson last week about trying to improve, heard from more than one person saying the Cardinals gave him a contract too soon. Today, with the busted ribs and the big plays, that’s why he got the contract, and why he is WR1.

- 2d Josh Weinfuss (X) Michael Wilson on finally having a breakout game: " I'm happy about the way it happened, too. I actually think… like this was my best game on stats, but I could have played a lot better."
- 2d Josh Weinfuss (X) How tough is Michael Wilson? Well, for starters, he could barely laugh after the game because his ribs hurt him so much. "I'm in a lot of pain," he said. Then he had this to say about the idea of pulling himself out of the game if there were other healthy receivers available: "I think, for me, with my rib injury, it's just as long as the ribs aren't completely broken and puncturing my lungs, it's really a pain tolerance thing,” Wilson said. "And, so, if we had everyone healthy, this organization's paying me a lot of money and, so, if I can muster up the strength and go out to play even at 60 percent, I'm going to because this organization has changed my life and I don't believe in just taking, taking, taking. "When I signed that contract, it was to put my body on the line for my teammates, for the coaches and for the organization. So, there's no way that I wasn’t going to force it."
- 2d Theo Mackie (X) More from Wilson: "This organization has changed my life. And I don't believe in taking, taking, taking. - Giants-Saints pregame thoughts: • Finally, no rain! Will be nice to watch a game that isn't heavily impacted by the weather. • The Giants were forced into the best version of their offense because they were trailing by two scores in the second half of last week's game. Don't want Jameis Winston dropping back 60 times every week, but the best players on this offense are Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely. The offense needs to run through them. If you have to live with a bad pick here and there, that's OK because Jameis is also delivering yards/touchdowns. • Nabers saying he's only 80% back is encouraging considering he has 17 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the past two games. That seems like an accurate assessment because he has left some plays on the field while being productive. This matchup should provide an opportunity for another big game. • Have covered the RB shake-up plenty. Not much more to say. I don't get the Najee Harris love from the coaching staff, but this…

- Sep 3 Josh Weinfuss (X) There actually was a late push. A very late push, in fact. · Quoting John Gambadoro: This is actually a great day for the Arizona Cardinals getting a very fair deal done for both sides with Michael Wilson. There was no late push as some reports have said - they began working on this right before camp and got it done before the "Unofficial" deadline of the first week of the season. These things take time to get across the finish line and hats off to the Cardinals for getting it done as this was one of their top priorities. I'm a big fan of MW - great kid, great teammate, incredibly hard worker - truly embodies what you want in a player.
- Sep 3 Josh Weinfuss (X) Here's some more context around Michael Wilson's extension: - As of Wednesday morning, the two sides were about $3 million-$4 million apart, a source told ESPN. The gap was closed quickly and by 3 p.m. Arizona time, Wilson's team was "very optimistic" that a deal would get done. - It was his choice to get three years instead of four. - Wilson's $25 million per year is about $10 million more per year than Arizona's initial offer. - Whenever Wilson's team countered an offer, the Cardinals responded with small, incremental offers. - I didn't see the negotiations going into the season. I was told that Week 1 was a deadline of sorts. - As of late in training camp, I got the sense that a deal was not getting done.
- Sep 3 Darren Urban (Bluesky) "Getting this deal done, a lot of guys would look at this like an end point but to me, it's just more motivation, more fuel, more fire to pay back what the organization has given me." WR Michael Wilson signs 3-year contract extension with #AZCardinals
- Sep 3 Theo Mackie (X) The Cardinals' key skill position players are now under team control through the following seasons: Jeremiyah Love: 2030 Michael Wilson: 2029 Trey McBride: 2029 Marvin Harrison Jr.: 2028 Not bad.

- Mike LaFleur was visibly ticked off as he walked off the field after the Cardinals' 45-21 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Afterward, he called it Arizona's "worst game" of the season and said it felt like deja vu from last weekend against the Giants, albeit without the potential to win on the last play of the game. "It's either we can drive it after we get the first first down or we're a three-and-out machine right now," he said. LaFleur added: "I know we're better than that, but that doesn't mean shit right now because that's not what we did today. So I got to be better for these guys." LaFleur said the Lions played man coverage and doubled Trey McBride and Michael Wilson to force everyone else on offense to beat them. And LaFleur knows the Cardinals will keep seeing that until they can beat it. "Until we prove that that's a bad idea for a defense, we're just going to continue to get that," LaFleur said. He was also not pleased with Arizona's run game, which produced 56 yards.…

- Oct 5 Dan Duggan (X) Giants' defensive snap counts vs. Cardinals: • Uptick in snaps for DJ Reader and Shelby Harris. Reader has been quietly steady all season. Harris had his best game, highlighted by the tipped pass that turned into an Arvell Reese interception. Darius Alexander's playing time increased as he was back in the third-down package with Kayvon Thibodeaux bumped out to edge rusher. CJ Okoye had an impressive bull rush for his first career sack. Chauncey Golston played almost exclusively on the defensive line before leaving with a neck injury (he looked woozy) in the third quarter. Alexander and Reader were the interior DL on passing downs after Golston's departure. • Abdul Carter had a major impact rushing the passer regardless of what the box score says. He was constantly winning quickly and putting pressure on Jacoby Brissett. He has been off the field for four defensive snaps in the past two games. That's not sustainable. Need to find a way to rotate more even with Brian Burns…

Giants-Cardinals pregame thoughts:
• Is this Jameis Winston's last stand? It would be much better for the Giants if Winston can settle down and play well enough so they don't need to rush JJ McCarthy onto the field. But the clock is going to be ticking if it doesn't look better than the past two appearances. The Giants haven't scored a TD in the 7+ quarters since Jaxson Dart's injury and they're 0-for-4 in the red zone the past two games.
Don't need to see vintage Jameis slinging it all over the field, but would like to see them open up the offense a bit. This is a bad defense. You invested in Winston for this moment, at least show a little trust in him.
• The Winston point ties into Malik Nabers. He has six catches for 27 yards over the past two games. He's still not back to top form, but this is a matchup that could get him there. But need to scheme some plays downfield/in the open field. Enough screens into the teeth of the defense.
• The Cardinals have an efficient offense…

- Oct 4 Josh Weinfuss (X) Michael Wilson on what happened on the last play of the game: “He called a slant. I mean, I could have forced the inside release. I felt he had inside leverage. I tried to sell the fade and come back underneath and he made a good play, good coverage rep and it stings. Mike had confidence to come to me and I feel like I let him down and let the team down. So I'm going to respond the right way and make sure that doesn't happen."
- Oct 4 Josh Weinfuss (X) Michael Wilson was down after this loss and tried to shoulder the blame. "I just feel like Coach was counting on me to make plays and calling my name and I fell up short. And the only thing I can feel right now is I feel like I lost this football team that game," he said.
- Oct 4 Josh Weinfuss (X) I asked Mike LaFleur why Marvin Harrison Jr. played just 3 of 13 snaps in the third quarter and if he still has confidence in his third-year receiver. "My confidence is high in Marv," LaFleur said. As for MHJ's limited snaps, it was because Arizona went to 13 personnel and if MHJ was on the field instead of Michael Wilson, then Trey McBride would have to move to the Z tight end from an X tight end and it would've changed the entire package. "We wanted to simplify it a little bit more in terms of just all those personnel groups thought that would help with our operation a little bit more as opposed to having so many subs," LaFleur said. "So, that had nothing to do with that other than what I just said."

Thought about this quote from Michael Wilson a few times today. As a father and a son, it hit home. As parents, we sacrifice to make our kids' lives better. Our stories don't start with us, as Wilson's didn't start with the Senior Bowl.
And I think I speak for every parent when I say we all hope our kids appreciate what we do for them like Wilson appreciates what his parents did for him.
"I think it starts 50 years before the Senior Bowl," Wilson said. "My dad came from Montego Bay, Jamaica, grew up with a schizophrenic mom, came here when he was 18, was a construction worker for 35 years. He probably won't want me to say this, but he never made over $100,000 in his entire life, and my mom was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand, came here in her mid-20s to pursue a nursing career. So, I think it starts at their story, right? Two immigrants came here. My mom, still to this day, doesn't know much about football. To be honest, she really doesn't like me playing football still.…
