- Oct 7 David Lombardi (X) A look at new 49ers WR Xavier Smith · Quoting David Lombardi: WR Xavier Smith, whom the Rams recently waived, just replaced Dante Pettis (IR - calf) on the 49ers — a team that Smith beat with a clutch punt return in 2024 for LA. The 5-9 Smith is an interesting player. Worked at Amazon for a year post-HS but then walked on at Florida A&M. Then made it to NFL as UDFA. That 38-yard punt return to beat the 49ers came in 2024. Smith muffed a punt in the NFCCG last year that might've hastened his Rams exit. But the 49ers obviously need more WR depth and return adaptability doesn't hurt
