- 2d David Lombardi (X) Seriously, though. The Chargers are going nowhere. Herbert was obviously hugely overrated entering this season, but if he does still have some trade value, it does LA no good to keep exposing him to injury. Plus Lance might execute this McDaniel system better anyway. Herbert has been atrocious. Day 20, final day of training camp:
- Derwin James picked off Trey Lance on a pass intended for RB Amar Johnson. It looked like there was some miscommunication between Lance and Johnson. James later had what would’ve been a TFL on a Kimani Vidal run.
- WR Dalevon Campbell had the catch of the day on a pass from DJ Uiagalelei, making a leaping TD grab over Rodney Shelley, who was draped all over him. Campbell has consistently made highlight-reel grabs throughout camp.
- Oronde Gadsden beat Emany Johnson down the sideline for what would’ve been a TD from Justin Herbert, but Gadsden dropped the pass.
- Charlie Kolar had a bunch of catches throughout practice.
- OLB Andre Carter got into the backfield for what would’ve been a run stop early in practice. Carter also had a pressure where he quickly beat Travis Burke. Carter has been really impressive since arriving about two weeks ago. He could be a guy the Chargers try to keep on the practice squad if another team doesn’t grab him.

- I missed the late Dwayne Haskins, so that makes eight on the second list. For those interested, the last QB to not make it three years with his drafting team before Tebow was Cade McNown. · Quoting Albert Breer: So this is interesting ... • From 2000-09, every first-round QB made it thru three seasons with the team that drafted him. • From 2010-24, seven (Tim Tebow, Brandon Weeden, Johnny Manziel, Josh Rosen, Trey Lance, Kenny Pickett, JJ McCarthy) haven't. Seems pretty relevant.
-
[Seifert] According to the Elias Sports Bureau, J.J. McCarthy is 1 of 4 first-round QBs in the past 25 years to start 10 or fewer games for the team that drafted them. The others:
Paxton Lynch
Trey Lance
Johnny Manziel

- Jimmy Garoppolo: Good 49ers QB. Brock Purdy: Top-shelf 49ers QB. Garoppolo helped pave the way for Purdy — as 2022 Wk1 showed, would've been tough w/ Trey Lance.
