- Sept. 1 has come and gone. Turns out that the 49ers did indeed handle the Brandon Aiyuk situation after he abandoned the team perfectly. No, they did not need to “just cut him to be done with it” — that would have been a competitively irresponsible play. Now the 49ers have saved salary-cap space by maintaining the proration and they may even be able to recoup space moving forward

Just a reminder: Although Brandon Aiyuk remains under contract to the 49ers, he is on the reserve/left squad list and does not count against the roster. Therefore, there is no need for the 49ers to make any kind of roster move with him today.
