- John Lynch on KNBR: “That was one of the best collective efforts from our secondary that we’ve had in a long time around here. That’s where Raheem cut his teeth.” Lynch adds that Morris ID'd Renardo Green immediately after joining the 49ers as a player who could blossom in 2026 · Quoting David Lombardi: The dime package the 49ers employed for 8 snaps in Week 1 was a great glimpse into the MAJOR 2026 defensive evolution. More on that later... The most ridiculous part of the fake Renardo Green trade rumors this offseason: Corner was actually the 49ers' defensive strength last season. SF just didn't have a pass rush, and Saleh's system (like any system) was reliant on that. Now they have a rush, and Raheem Morris also has a PHD in DB play. Week 1 saw Morris unleash the 49ers' CBs in much more aggressive, frequent cushion-free/press-man fashion. Morris trusted his corners to make big plays, and Green delivered when he fooled Matthew Stafford — who didn't see him before his sprint back…
- Rookie DT James Thompson Jr., who is dealing with a hamstring strain, was the only 49er not taking part at the start of today's practice. George Kittle, Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans, Renardo Green were all on hand.

- 4d David Lombardi (X) Expanding on this: The 49ers used their newfound DB orientation, rooted in their new DB-oriented DC, to run 2-high defenses at the highest rate of the Shanahan era. Prior years had already seen significant coverage evolutions — especially the Cover-4 shift of 2019, but 2026 looks to be the biggest defensive shift yet in this Shanahan decade. (Factor in the big increase in 5-man fronts, too) · Quoting David Lombardi: The dime package the 49ers employed for 8 snaps in Week 1 was a great glimpse into the MAJOR 2026 defensive evolution. Morris trusted his corners to make big plays, and Green delivered when he fooled Matthew Stafford — who didn't see him before his sprint back in front of Puka Nacua on that second-quarter corner route. The 49ers actually now have enough good DBs to employ that dime package that also ft. Jack Jones on the field at the same time with Green, Deommodore Lenoir, and Stout. This strength at corner, which allows for greater risk-taking on the back…

- Sep 6 David Lombardi (X) Nick Bosa not at the open window of practice but, as I head, could just be his "Wednesday" maintenance plan. Everyone else except James Thompson Jr. was a participant, including: Renardo Green Jack Jones Jacob Cowing Gracen Halton Luke Gifford Romello Height Thompson worked on the side. The pink injury shadings have all but vanished (for now)!
- Sep 6 Matt Barrows (Bluesky) A number of previously injured 49ers were back today: * Renardo Green * Romello Height * Jacob Cowing * Vederian Lowe * Gracen Halton * Luke Gifford No Nick Bosa. Christian McCaffrey was on hand but did not practice. He might be on a practice pitch count all season.
- Sep 6 David Lombardi (X) Renardo Green was among the 49ers back at practice. Assuming Nick Bosa is on a specialized maintenance plan, that would mean every 49ers starter on the active roster is on track to play in Week 1

- Final practice here before the 49ers take off for Australia. They seem to be nailing the “ensure the team is healthy for Week 1” objective of August: 🏈 Only starter not practicing today is Renardo Green 🏈 Only offensive player not practicing today is Jacob Cowing
