Upton Stout’s return to practice is great news for the 49ers. The availability of Stout, Lenoir, Renardo Green, and Jack Jones allows for max flexibility of the dime packages Raheem Morris has introduced this season.

SF just didn't have a pass rush, and Saleh's system (like any system) was reliant on that. Now they have a rush, and Raheem Morris also has a PHD in DB play. Week 1 saw Morris unleash the 49ers' CBs in much more aggressive, frequent cushion-free/press-man fashion.

- Oct 25 David Lombardi (X) Today's performance from Brock Purdy is why he's still not the best QB in the NFL in my book which is currently Josh Allen or Pat Mahomes. You have to single handedly elevate your wounded team that is playing like crap to win gritty games like that. Brock threw a pick (unreal play by LB and not really even Brock's fault) on that final drive and he could have checked it down to CMC to live to fight for another day after noticing for a split second that the LB dropped (that would obviously be an all time great QB type of play but that's now the expectation). The defense was crap today (Jack Jones is unplayable) but they came up with two critical stops in back to back drives to end the game that Brock should have taken advantage of and he didn't. Let's not get it twisted btw - Brock is playing at tier 1 top 5 QB in the NFL levels which is the best he's played so far in his very young career and I expect a great bounce back game after the bye. #FTTB #49ers

The 49ers' fourth CB was pressed into action with Upton Stout still battling that shoulder sprain (bye week will be huge for him)... on a day with poor short-game pass defense AND nonexistent pass rush — so conditions were ripe for Atlanta to pick on Jones, who's been a boom-or-bust corner over his career:
5 targets, 4 catches, 2 penalties, 39 yards — most of which moved the chains.
The 49ers should get Stout back at closer to 100% for their next game. That'll be huge in combatting the short game and, by extension, reigniting the pass rush. Like everyone else, I am curious about what other move(s) they can make up front to further that cause — but remember that everything on defense is interconnected
